Wednesday, June 15th will be a date that will forever live in the memories of five Montgomery County high school music students. This was the first collaboration between OrchLab, OrchKids, the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, the full Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop. And to top it all off, it featured cello superstar Yo-Yo Ma in front of a sold-out audience at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore!

Representing OrchLab, five Springbrook High School musicians collaborated on a presentation of Piazzolla’s Libertango. This was the encore after Yo-Yo Ma’s stunning performance of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.

In partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s OrchLab program works to enrich the instrumental music curriculum, enhance student performance skills and offer professional development to music educators in selected County Title I schools. The BSO OrchLab program is delivered at no cost, serving high numbers of students in areas that are traditionally underserved by the arts.
