Marin Alsop Leads Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in a Program of Bernstein and Beethoven, Nov. 21-23

In a program that continues the 2014-2015 season theme of spirituality in music, Music Director Marin Alsop pays tribute to her mentor Leonard Bernstein. Maestra Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in a concert featuring the works of both Bernstein and Beethoven, Friday, November 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 23 at 3 p.m at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Saturday, November 22 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore.

Hannu Lintu Leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, Oct. 30 Nov. 1

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) welcomes the return of internationally renowned conductor Hannu Lintu for performances of Brahms’ Second Symphony, Thursday, October 30 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore, and Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Also on the program are Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3 and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1, performed by 20-year-old piano sensation Conrad Tao and BSO Principal Trumpet Andrew Balio.

Marin Alsop Conducts Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Strauss’ Epic Tone Poem, Ein Heldenleben: A Hero’s Life, Oct. 23 & 26

Music Director Marin Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben: A Hero’s Life on Thursday, October 23 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Sunday, October 26 at 3 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. Also on the Classical Concert Series program are Christopher Rouse’s Rapture and Scriabin’s rarely performed Poem of Ecstasy. Ein Heldenleben is the subject of Maestra Alsop’s first Off the Cuff program of the 2014-2015 season, held Friday, October 24 at 8:15 p.m. at Strathmore and Saturday, October 25 at 7 p.m. at the Meyerhoff.

Maestro Arild Remmereit and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Perform Tchaikovsky’s Seldom Heard Third Symphony, Oct. 18 & 19 

Maestro Arild Remmereit and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra  (BSO) present a program of Tchaikovsky and Mozart on Saturday, October 18 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The concert includes Tchaikovsky’s rarely heard Symphony No. 3, “Polish,” Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G Major, performed by BSO Principal Flute Emily Skala, and the BSO premiere of 19th century female composer Elfrida Andrée’s Concert Overture in D Major.
