Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Announces Summer Concert Lineup
Launching Music for Maryland Tour and Expansive Fourth of July Celebrations
BALTIMORE (April 27, 2022) – The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) today announced the details of its summer schedule. The lineup includes the launch of the Music for Maryland Tour, in which the Orchestra performs in all Maryland jurisdictions over the next three summers, and a series of Star-Spangled Celebrations beginning with a return to Oregon Ridge Park.
In the first year of the Music for Maryland Tour, the BSO will travel to six counties: Carroll, Calvert, Kent, Howard, Garrett, and Prince George’s counties. Showcasing the Orchestra as one owned by the entire State of Maryland, performances are curated to celebrate each county’s hometown pride. Led by Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush, concert themes span from train-inspired music – with John W. Garrett (of Garrett County) having served as the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad President – to the University of Maryland’s Terps’ Fight Song in Prince George’s County. A multi-year initiative grounded in partnerships, the BSO is also approaching the Music for Maryland Tour as a means to engage in mini-residencies across Maryland. The BSO will share a free program featuring BSO musicians and narrators curated explicitly for young listeners and families in each tour jurisdiction.
The BSO also expands and returns to its Fourth of July traditions in 2022. The BSO’s Star-Spangled Spectacular kicks off the celebrations at Oregon Ridge Park in Baltimore County on July 3, followed by performances at the newly renovated Rash Field in Baltimore City on July 4 and Boordy Vineyards on July 7. Movie with Orchestra selections also bring the BSO back to its home venues – the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and The Music Center at Strathmore – with Toy Story in Concert on July 15-17 and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in Concert™ on August 12 and 13 with a special trip to Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 14.

Ever wonder what toys do when people aren’t around? Toy Story answers that question with a fantastic fun-filled journey, viewed mostly through the eyes of two rival toys – Woody, the lanky, likable cowboy, and Buzz Lightyear, the fearless space ranger. Led by Woody, Andy’s toys live happily in his room until Andy’s birthday brings Buzz Lightyear onto the scene. Afraid of losing his place in Andy’s heart, Woody plots against Buzz.
But when circumstances separate Buzz and Woody from their owner, the comically-mismatched duo eventually learn to put aside their differences, and they find themselves on a hilarious adventure-filled mission where the only way they can survive is to form an uneasy alliance.
