You-jin Choi
Native of South Korea, violinist You-jin Choi received her Bachelor of Music degree from Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea. You-jin began her studies in the United States by attending the Manhattan School of Music for her Master of Music degree in violin performance studying with Lucie Robert, where she has also attended the Orchestral Performance program under the tutelage of David Chen, Glenn Dicterow, and Lisa Kim. You-jin has gained valuable insights through masterclasses with distinguished musicians such as Alexander Barantschik, Robert Chen, David Kim, and Stephen Rose. You-jin’s other primary teachers include Frank Huang, Ho-Young Pi, and Kajin Lim.
Prior to joining the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for their 2024-2025 season, You-jin was a member of the Binghamton Symphony Orchestra. As an active orchestral player based in New York City, You-jin has played in various ensembles such as Apex Ensemble and Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra and has appeared in Carnegie Hall. You-jin has been awarded fellowship to participate in summer festival at the National Orchestral Institute and the Orford Music Festival in Canada with full scholarships. You-jin has worked under the baton of renowned conductors such as Marin Alsop, Roderick Cox, George Manahan, Ruth Reinhardt, and Leonard Slatkin.
As a passionate chamber musician, You-jin was the winner of the Journal of Music Chamber Competition in South Korea. From 2022-2023, You-jin was granted as the chamber fellow for the Orchestra of St. Lukes. During her studies at the Manhattan School of Music, she was awarded first prize at the Fuchs Chamber competition and the Ruth Widder competition at the Manhattan School of Music.
You-jin has accumulated extensive solo experience in South Korea, where she was the 1st prize winner of the Sungshin Women’s University Violin Competition and Yeoncheon International Music Festival Competition.
