Qing Li
Astonishing in her musical versatility, violinist Qing Li brings great warmth, poise and insight to her playing. Lauded for “the highest level musicality” and “unsurpassed technical brilliance”, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Violinist and a Professor of Violin at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Ms. Li is a frequently featured soloist with the Baltimore Symphony as well as other orchestras in the U.S. and Asia.
Ms. Li is a Piatigorsky Foundation Artist, a much sought-after recitalist, chamber musician
and guest concertmaster, leading performances of the Detroit, Iceland, and Singapore
Symphonies, to name a few. She is also a member of the three-time Emmy Award winner, the All-Star Orchestra on PBS. Her recordings have been broadcasted by the radio and TV stations in the major music centers of the USA, South America, Europe and Asia, including the biography feature on the Voice Of America.
In 2024 Ms. Li was the principal soloist and curator of the Richmond Symphony’s StradFest Gala featuring Maestro Itzhak Perlman and young upcoming soloists from across North America, showcasing nine extraordinary instruments made by Antonio Stradivari.
Since 2017 inaugural season’s debut concert at the Carnegie Hall, Qing Li has been the violin artist faculty and the curator of the National Youth Orchestra – China. She is regularly featured in masterclasses and is an active participant in Festivals throughout the US, Asia, Europe and South America including the Beijing International Music Festival Academy and the National Orchestra Institute+Festival in College Park, Maryland.
Born in Beijing, China, Ms. Li began violin studies at the age 4 with her father. At the age of 12, Qing was accepted to the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Discovered by the legendary Berl Senofsky, following her prize-winning performance of the Sibelius Concerto at the first Beijing International Violin Competition, Ms. Li was accepted to the renowned Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she was granted a full scholarship and won the Marbury Violin Competition.
Her other mentors include Pinchas Zukerman, Herbert Greenberg and Sylvia Rosenberg. After graduating from Peabody Qing Li has continued studies with the legendary Joseph Gingold in Bloomington, Indiana.
Ms. Li resides in Baltimore and performs on the rare 1736 Nicolo Gagliano violin.
