The Baltimore Symphony showcases the cultural beauty of Japan with the second of three concerts in the season’s AAPI Festival.

Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4
Since winning the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition while still a student at the Juilliard School, cellist Zlatomir Fung has vaulted into the elite ranks of international soloists, cultivating “a rich, warm tone, impeccable intonation and thoughtful phrasing” (The Baltimore Sun) that he calls upon in the unusually fluid and sensitive First Cello Concerto by Saint-Saëns. Conductor Ken-David Masur returns with Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony—a poignant meditation on fate—along with a touching tribute by the dean of living Japanese composers.

Join us when the lobby opens at 6:30 PM for lobby performances that showcase the cultural beauty of Japan. Performances by Misako Ballet Company and Japan-born soprano, Eriko Tokura will begin at 7 PM in the Lockheed Martin Lobby (orchestra level).

The March 9 concert is a part of the Casual Conversations series. Please note: the program does not have an intermission.

Join us when the lobby opens at 6 pm on Saturday March 9 to enjoy for delicious food for purchase from Ekiben Food Truck, Toki Underground, and Eli Mochi Donuts (see menus below), and snap a complimentary photo at our themed step & repeat, and visit learn about Japan at the Baltimore Kawasaki Sister City Committee table as part of the BSO’s AAPI Festival.
Immediately after the concert in the Main Lobby, the BSO will host performances that showcase the cultural beauty of Japan, with an opening song by Japan-born soprano, Eriko Tokura, followed by ballet selections from Misako Ballet Company.
